Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Exodus 17:1-7
Psalm 78:1-4, 12-16
Philippians 2:1-13
Matthew 21:23-32

“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be an
acceptable offering in your sight, Oh Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”

Our Gospel lesson today is about authority. Malvolio in Shakespeare’s
Twelfth Night says that some men are born great “some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrust upon ’em.” You might say the same thing
about responsibility or authority too.
